Life got crazy. It has a way of doing that.

I now have one of my daughter's classmates living with us, and she is a bit of a social butterfly. Which is great for my daughter, as she gets to go out and enjoy herself a lot more than she used to, but which makes the chauffeur (me) a very tired lady.

I have a nasty tendency to get manic before the holidays - wanting to make sure everyone has just the perfect gifts, and that everyone has everything they could possibly want. This, of course, leads to ugly things like overdraft fees.

But every year I do it. And every year I tell myself that next year will be different. I won't expect so much, so I won't be disappointed. I won't spend every cent I can get my hands on, so I'm broke from the first week of December on. I won't make myself sick.

I went out last night, for the first time in years. Now, to be truthful, I used to drink as a hobby - something to do to get me out of the house every day. Yes, every day.

But I haven't done that in years. Too many other things going on, and I haven't felt comfortable around strangers for what feels like forever.

Still, last night I went out. Four drinks in as many hours, and I wound up spending the night in the parking lot, because I wasn't safe to drive home.
