MyChillPills - Mental Health for the Masses

hello

i've been suffering from anxiety for about 2 years, after christmas was when it really worsened to the point i needed to take medication to get me through the day without breaking down or being to scared to leave the house.

of late though i have been EXTREMELY tired, ill get around 8/9 hours sleep, but all during the day at work ill just wanna fall asleep, i dont think this is a side effect from my tablets as i have been on them for a while now, does anyone have any suggestions on what they think this could be?!

or has anyone else suffered the same and have any suggestions etc?

Let me know :D

I know how you feel. Our bodies are in fight and flight mode so no matter how much sleep you get anxiety makes us tired. The body is working hard to protect itself from harms way.

Feeling tired is a common symptom of chronic anxiety. Since we become stressed and anxious we throw our bodies into overdrive. Thus, the constant flooding of adrenaline exhausts the body, and that is when the fatigue sets in.

No matter how much sleep I get it is never enough.

How long have you been on your anxiety medication for?
Do you get regular exercise?
Do you have breakfast in the morning? If so, what do you have?
When times do you sleep?
Do you have a really boring job?
And now for a weird question, what color is your work area?

Well, there could be several reasons, not all of them connected with your anxiety. In any case, you should go to a doctor and have things checked out. In addition, they are ways to combat fatigue such as fitness training and better nutrition.

However, if none of those work for you, then go to a doctor. Especially for high stress people like us should take close tabs on our health, since the mind and the body are closely interconnected.

Lee-Ann,

Maybe you need a little more sleep!
you never know :)

The crucial thing is finding time to relax, during this time the important thing isnt wether it results in sleep or not, but so that your body feels like it had a neutral time where it was allowed to 'take 5.'

Often for me, knowing i have this time helps me get through the day.

Well you should start exercising, slowly at first. Try just going for a walk in the evenings before dinner, try a half mile to start, then progressively get longer. Early evening exercise promotes a better night's sleep.
Are you having any juice with your breakfast? Try having a glass of OJ every morning or if you can find it, pomegranate is great too, that's what I like to drink.
The darker the shade of blue, would definitely be related to being tired. Just in general the color blue makes people feel relaxed and promote a feeling of nostalgia which distracts most people from working. Most offices are painted an off white color known as "tope" which is supposed to produce as close to no emotional response as possible.
If you have personal space where you work, try to make it more lively, get a plant, maybe a bonsai tree that you need to take care of in your spare time, those weird desk toys, the puzzles where you remove the ring... stuff like that. Also be sure to take advantage of any breaks you may have to leave the building, get fresh air and sunlight.

I found the exercise was one of the things that helped me the most, lol

Of course, it took me a lot of medication to actually get going to the gym, but once there I found that it was a thing that fed itself, and the more I worked out, the more I wanted to. Even though I quit, at least I know that I do have the option. However, I think that the thing that worked the most for me was the medication I took, which is what really allowed me to live a normal life.

By the way, there is nothing wrong with needing your medication to help you get through the day. After all, that is what they are there for. I could not get through the day without my medication, but that is why I began taking them in the first place.

As to your fatigue, have your health checked out. It never hurts. Because of stress and depression, you may not be eating correctly, you may be anemic, you may need vitamins.

Depression can affect sleeping cycles. On one hand, it can make them longer, and you sleep for twelve hours and wake up feeling tired, or it can make them shorter, and as tired as you are, you will never get sleep. Of course, some psychiatric medications can also cause those problems. the best thing to do is to see your doctor, do some blood tests. Depressed people have a knack (speaking for myself of course) of not taking care of their body, so it is important to stay alert to changes in your body and make sure that you see a doctor.

Have you considered taking any herbal remedies?

Perhaps you are just stressed out, and you need some time to rest. How about taking a weekend alone, sitting with your cat or something like that, and making time just for yourself. Reading, doing hobbies, things that don't seem important but we seem to forget far to often.
